Si hay una verdad universalmente conocida, es que los Regal y los Crossward siempre han mantenido una excelente relación. Pertenecientes a los círculos más influyentes del mundo mágico, ambas familias juegan su parte dentro de la rama más conservadora de la sociedad mágica. 

Igualmente, hay otra verdad universalmente conocida, y es que la rivalidad de los más jóvenes de ambas familias no parece tener límites. Cabe esperar que los capitanes de dos casas rivales tengan un cierto sentido de competencia; pero lo suyo está a otro nivel. Por una parte, Marcus está muy orgulloso de su linaje, es arrogante, carismático y una de las personas más temidas de la escuela. Por otra, Bess se revela contra todo en lo que cree su familia, es rebelde, testaruda y muy competitiva.
