I am a warrior, with a wolf's spirit inside me. I am alone, and I will never be found, for if I am found I will be killed. I hide from the White Men who forced my tribe West, and I hide from the bears and the panthers of the forest, and I hide from the dreams that tell me I know more of the White Man than I want to. For four years, I have lived alone, with the animals and the wind and my thoughts. For four years, I have fought to survive. But with a panther's scream comes the flash of a White Man's lightning-stick, and suddenly, I am found. The White Man named John says he will not hurt me, but he will help me. He tries to convince me that warriors need one another, that all wolves need a pack, and he begins to awaken the part of me, deep within, that wants to be found.

Alone. Naked. Cold. Covered in blood that is just as likely to be mine as someone else's. I don't know who I am, where I am, or what I'm running from. All I get are flashes, snippets of dark shadows, sneering faces. Pain always follows these nightmares, these memories. I was found, taken in, but I have no way of knowing if I only escaped the frying pan just to jump into the fire. I don't understand these people, these wolves. They don't understand me, either. Our words mean nothing to each other, they're no more than sounds. We use gestures, facial expressions, body language like the beasts we seem to be. I can only pray these beasts are not the same ones I'm running from. -This story has depictions of violence, depression, panic attacks, gore.
