Ever since Lord Peter Stromson's death eight years ago, his daughter Rachelle has been sick in bed, too weak from shock and sorrow to even receive visitors. At least, that's what everyone thinks. In reality, she has been posing as a slave for her stepmother, pretending she still believes that she would be in danger if her true identity were revealed. Although not content with her dismal life, she has convinced herself that she has no other option but to remain silent... until she stumbles across a plot against her old friend, Prince Xander. Racing to warn Xander of the threat, Rachelle enlists the help of a produce merchant and his daughter, hoping that she will manage to warn her friend before he is harmed... and before she herself is killed in the process.

A Cinderella Re-telling: When Ella's mother dies, leaving her nine year old daughter stricken with grief, Ella gets told one very important thing: Have courage and be kind. When Ella's father dies nine years later, she is left with only her step mother, two step sisters, and the joyful memories of her childhood. But when she runs into a kind stranger in the woods, he seems...strangely familiar. He is a strong spirited young man, only a few years older then Ella herself. She becomes fascinated with him, and knows little about his mutual feelings. Then the King throws a ball on his son's behalf, and invites every person in the kingdom whether of noble blood, or not. Ella is determined to find a way to attend this ball, and she is more then determined to find her happy ending.
