Soren is the daughter of prodigious scientist of the Capitol. With no mother or siblings, she grew up in the overwhelming Capitol having only one sole friend, herself. In her isolation, she finds herself exploring the air vents of the Capitol, eavesdropping and collecting secrets that should just stay hidden. On one of her journeys through the tunnels, she finds out something that could very well change everything for her. There is a rebellion coming, and it could very well destroy everything. She is put in immediate grave danger because of all the information she has heard in the air vents, and has no choice but to leave the Capitol without her father and live out the war in District Twelve, the birth home of her deceased mother. Upon her arrival, she is dubbed as an outcast. Hiding in the rebel camps surrounded by people, she couldn't feel more alone. Then, on a very dangerous walk through the forest, she discovers what the Capitol call Jabber Jays, an invention of her father's designed to collect information on the rebels. Soren sees no harm in the birds, and even finds herself befriending them. Yet, she is absolutely oblivious to the fact that these birds are made to repeat everything they hear to the Capitol, and that she has just revealed herself to an endless amount of danger that she might not be able to escape this time around.
