"You came back for me. . ." I said. Asher was stitching my arm and not listening to me.
"Ash, you mad at me?" I asked. He just left my arm after stitching it and stood up.
He headed for the door. "I'm really sorry." I said. He turned around and said, "You're forgiven." Then he walked over to me with a worried look. His thumb brushed away blood that was on my cheek.
"Dad may not know I spared you." He said. "That's what I like about you, Ash. No matter what. . . you keep fighting . . . fighting for something even though you might lose it," I said. "Save your strengh." He brushed the hair out of my eyes. "You got a few burns, on your back." Asher told me. "I'm sorry," Asher said.
I remember that wild look in his eyes. That envy. That hate. Him blasting me on the back.
"You hurt me." I said.
"I didn't mean it." Asher said. I kept staring into his red eyes. For the first time I noticed how much this prince meant to me.

I woke up in a daze, unsure of why my body felt so stiff, so sore. I winced as I threw my legs over the side of the bed, and again as I stood up, pain flaring from every muscle in my body as I made my way to the polished mirror beside my wardrobe. I whimpered as I headed to the door, but it was locked. It seems my father had predicted my state. Rage and anger burned through my veins as I slammed my fist against the door. He stretched his crinkled hand over his head, to show how the dragons flew. "They would glide over the world and land on their tall mountains. Returning home after his long day of flight. Oh, Bean, if only you could have seen it." He shook his head, his light grey, shoulder length hair moving with each pass. "I wish I could see a dragon once more before I die." He took a deep breath.
