Upon her laughing at my struggle, a smile naturally creeps onto my face. "Sorry. What I mean to say is I would like for you to come with me. If you come, you could finally know what my job is." My smile drops. "I'm sorry, Max, my flight leaves Thursday morning." Disappointed, I shrug in an attempt to play it casual. "It's okay," I say softly, and she scrunches her nose at the pet name. "But tell me the truth, would you have come if you were staying longer?" She smiles widely and I mimic her. "Depends, would you continue acting like an asshole?" I chuckle. I know she will never let that go, and weirdly it brings me joy because that means that she will never forget the day we met. And I don't want her to forget it because it is forged forever in my mind. I am bound by that day, but if I am bound, she should be too. I want us to be bound forever by that day. "Maybe. Depends if you will text me this time." "Then maybe." With a grin on my face, I reply, "Maybe is good enough for now." A lie. Truly, maybe is not enough, but I will wait for her forever if it is necessary.
