Mari always parties too hard, dragging her best friend Cassie down with her. Until she meets Justin, a famous singer. After seeing how free she is at parties, he uses her in his music videos. She keeps her music video identity a secret from the school and her mother. Her parents are divorced. Her father couldn't care less about her partying and involvement in Hollywood; her mother only visits once a month and all she does is complain about Mari's father. There's more to Mari; there's Marianna, the more responsible version of Mari, the one who doesn't party or star in music videos. There's Cassandra, too, the more responsible version of Cassie. Marianna works hard to give herself, Cassandra and their friends a future; Mari couldn't care less. And Cassie loves Mari, but Mari is too blind to notice. As her music video career takes off more and more, Mari and Marianna fight for dominant control, Cassie tries to make Mari realize that Justin is only using her, and Mari struggles to dive deeper into the world she created for herself to escape the pressures of Marianna.

Dana Mendes is an 18 year old student at the California College for Music where she majors in vocal music. She swore she'd be the best singer in her class, which she was. But there's a new guy that might be just a little better than her. Everyone in class, including the instructor is fascinated with the guys voice and seems to show him more attention than they'd ever shown Dana. Clearly this guy was trying to take the spotlight and for that, Dana was jealous of him. She's even more jealous because her best friend, Ryan, is his roommate. Not only was this guy trying to steal the spotlight in class, but he was now stealing her best friend. Will Dana get over the jealousy and give the guy a chance? Or will she hate him forever?
