Zahra is the last of her kind, a creature of wind and sand. A horse-shifter. After witnessing her parents deaths, Zahra is mistaken for a normal filly and captured in the land of Kanan and taken to the house of a merchant who gives her to his young son, Mahmud. In Kanan, horses are revered as sacred. Every boy must break in his first horse as a rite of passage into manhood. But Zahra has a will of iron, and Mahmud fails to break her. One day Mahmud discovers Zahra's secret, but instead of outing her to everyone, he reveals a secret of his own to her: Mahmud was born a Magi, a keeper of mystical powers and an interpreter of dreams. Their unconventional relationship gets even more complicated with Zahra's growing feelings for her handsome rider and as Mahmud rises to power and fame, he finds the expectations of the kingdom are in conflict with his own heart.

When the last of the Old Origins ended the High Humans from the world, the dragons went silent with the elves. Centuries later, the silence begins to stir. Iryn had always been a girl of peculiar gifts - born without her kingdom's magic, yet cursed to hear the language of all things: beasts, wind, even lies. Raised at court beside her childhood friend Prince Dimitri, she once believed her place was fixed - until a stranger from a foreign land and dreams of golden eyes followed her from the flames. When Reiss, a guard from the fiery kingdom of Trishüdel - or so he claims; appeared in her court reminding her of past memories - danger starts to stir. But the ember in his gaze burns too old, too knowing. And when dragons return to Boirl in whispers through white fire, Iryn's cursed blood may be the key to why. Caught between a prince bound to duty and a man bound to secrets, Iryn is drawn into a dangerous inheritance that could unmake her world.
