I started to try and buck him off but the wolf grabbed my ear between his teeth and growled. I froze and the wolf began to lick my ear carefully.

My wolf was suddenly pacing and growling in the back of my mind and I thought she was just as scared as I was. A black paw appeared close to the side of my head and before I could think about the consequences, I bit down sharply on his leg. The wolf yelped and shifted his weight back giving me a split second to buck him off and run.

I raced forward and my wolf started howling in my head. I ignored her but she grew louder. A word finally registered.

Mate.

My dream continued the one I'd been having for the past couple of nights. I ran, gasping for breath, through the familiar woods from a dark figure behind me. The faster I tried to run, the slower I seemed to go, until it was like I was running in place. I knew I needed to run. I was terrified of what the figure would do when he caught me. "Mara Leigh," a deep, smooth voice called. It was almost hypnotic. That was new. The figure had never spoke before now. I ran as fast as I could go, eyes searching the forest floor for a big stick or something that I could use to defend myself. "Mara Leigh!" the voice came again, this time more insistent. The forest slowly started to fade and I started to awake to someone shaking my shoulders. "Beau?" I mumbled, turning my head to the side. What's Beau doing in my room this time of night? Why is he shaking me? "Do not call me that name." My eyes flew open as I jumped at the voice from my dream. A face was right in front of mine, and just like the voice, it wasn't Beau. Before I could form a scream, a hand covered my mouth. I tried to bite it but I couldn't get my mouth to open. He's too strong. I started to use my whole body to try to get away, but he crawled on top of me, holding me down. I pulled the hidden knife out from under my pillow and slashed as hard as I could at him, but he just grabbed my wrist and squeezed it until the pain made me drop the knife. Then he grabbed both my hands in one of his and held them over my head. He held me down while I struggled. I grunted and moved and tried to kick and scream, but I only wore myself out. Exhausted, I stopped thrashing and let the tears flow freely down my cheeks. I didn't know what to do, so I just tried to prepare myself for whatever was coming.

Michelle's life was almost perfect. Loving family, great college, perfect grades, good friends, and a crush on one of the sweetest guys she's met. The only problem is that a local werewolf has decided she's his mate. With the struggles of falling in love and discovering things about herself she didn't know, she also gets thrown in the middle of a fued between the hunters and the hunted. ***** He finally made eye contact and I couldn't tell what he was thinking, or how he was feeling at that moment. He had me shut out. "Dad won't let her in the pack." "I know." "Are you sure she's human?" I rub my eyes again, they were really beginning to burn. "Yes, unless I've gone absolutely insane." I stopped rubbing my eyes for a moment. "Maybe I am crazy? I feel like it." Caden sighed, "That's the mate bond. The longer you go without, the worse you get." I knew that. I didn't like to think about it, but we all grew up hearing about it. Going crazy, your body shutting down. Wolves weren't meant to be separated from their Soulmates. It physically and mentally drained them until they just one day gave up. I never thought it would happen to me since it doesn't ever actually happen. We all knew better. Unfortunately my human mate did not. Caden watched me from where he sat, he knew what I was thinking, and was thinking the same himself. We didn't know how much time I had. "Well, I for one, as Alpha, would not mind a human in our midst if she is your mate." I let a small chuckle slip out and leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms. "Is it because you're so accepting of humans, or because you insist on having me as your Beta?" Caden smirked at me, "Does it matter?"

Ranked #22 in Isolation 07/25/2023 "I'm not mate material. You're better off without me." My heart clenched at his words and my wolf whined internally. "I, James, reject you, Grace, as my ma-" I lunged across the counter quickly placing my hand over his mouth. My other hand shot to the table to stabilize myself and I hissed loudly as I dumbly slammed it down on his knife. I could feel it biting into my palm slicing the flesh but I dared not move in fear that he would finish his sentence. "Please don't do that to me." I pleaded as my eyes began to well with unshed tears. He attempted to lean back out of my hold but I only moved with him crawling fully onto the counter hovering above him, one hand still firmly pressed to his mouth. I could feel pleasant tingles surging through my palm and I wondered briefly what it would feel like to be kissed by him. He moved back again and when I tried to move with him this time I successfully slipped off the counter losing my grip on his mouth. His arms reached out pulling me to his form rather than the ground and I clutched onto his top as sparks danced on my skin everywhere we made contact. I couldn't help my instincts as I breathed in his scent feeling my muscles relax and my head go light. "You're an idiot to be begging for someone you don't even know." He looked at my bloody palm that now gripped his grey shirt properly staining it. I released my hold on him trying not to cringe at the pain in my palm but I was never good at hiding my emotions. "Idiot." He stated again staring at me.
