"Hana's Suitcase" is the award-winning book by author, Karen Levine. It chronicles the story of the Brady Family who were caught up in the Holocaust during WWII and with, Fumiko, a Japanese teacher who discovers a Holocauts-era suitcase with the name, Hanna" on it in the 1990s and begins a quest to uncover exactly who this little girl, "Hanna/Hana" actually was. My "Hana's Suitcase" story recounts my treasured experience helping one of my students read this book and discover, for herself, exactly who Hana was, too, just as Fumiko had done. There is a surprise twist at the end of this story which helps to make it one of my favourite teaching memories of all time. "My Hana's Suitcase Story" is the second in a collection of "Teacher" stories culled from experiences I've had in and out of the classroom during my 23 year teaching career.

The 10

A group of high school students is assigned to spend a week at a prison, a "social experiment," as the teacher calls it. Each student is assigned as a visitor to one inmate each, to learn life from their perspective. After the week is up, the students are free to go home finally. But, when the teacher announces that the students can continue to "stay in touch" with their inmate, one student decides to because she feels her inmate has a good heart. But she has no idea what she's getting herself, and nine others, into. *Story is 100% fictional. Any similarities in names, places, and situations are purely coincidental.*
