As a young woman Anna has a short, passionate love affair with a mysterious young man with looks, brains, and most a seductive power known as "duende." 
This same dark power that pulls her toward him, will also turn out to be a curse she has to break.  Not completely believing in magic or knowing how to break the curse, Anna continues to look for love in all the wrong relationships until she meets a handsome graduate student in ancient symbolism who holds the key to unlocking the curse, but as the truth of her past unravels before her, she will have to choose between love and magic, what is real and what is fiction. But everything they tell him to do, Nora says the opposite. Everything they say, Nora hints that they're lying to him.
