There were three things important to Remington Vanderall. One - Space. Specifically, the Messier Objects; objects in space that weren't comets, and weren't planets, but were somehwere in between. When she grew up, Remington wanted to discover a new Messier Object. Two- Books. Anything she could get her hands on. From pretentious poetry to confusing science fiction, to dull and boring biographies. She mostly loved the smell of books; she said it was a book's way of letting out its breath. Three - her cat, Hawking. Nothing else mattered to Remington, not school, because it was too boring, not people, for the same reason, and not even music. She thought it was a waste of time, and that one could not underestimate the value of silence. But that's the thing about silence. It's so freaking loud. And people can hear it. So when Remington starts to make friends with a band of geeky outcasts, she begins to realize that sometimes silence doesn't have to be all that quiet. She starts to have fun with her life. Which means, of course, something is bound to go horribly, terribly wrong.
