in the world of synta whenever a human is born it turns into an animal and has ears and two forms for the rest of its life but when the Danse macabre between light and dark begins and children born out of either pure light or darkness are born and others that have a twinge of the other have to help end the long Danse macabre being the dance of death Luna and Celestia never wanted this to happen but humans have turned greedy and what war but the equal of both dark and light child is born she becomes a goddess of protection for both sides that walks among humans.

From Dusk Till Dawn
Nyx was the goddess of the night and Aether was the god of the light, their paths crossing only at dawn and dusk. Somehow, they fell in love and had a set of triplets. Some of the gods feared the children and some were overjoyed. As Nyx was giving birth, her brother, Erebus bestowed the gift of darkness on each of the three babies.
