We're so used to seeing flowers as innocent and beautiful. It's hard to imagine them as the very things that could end up killing us with an unsatisfactory death.
The Hanahaki Disease is an illness born from a one-sided love, where the patient vomits and/or coughs up flower petals when they suffer from said one-sided love. The flowers grow around their lungs and they never stop, that is unless the feelings are returned romantically. Of course, the flowers can always be removed surgically, but along with the absence of the flowers comes the disappearance of all romantic feelings the patient has for their love. If the love is not requited, the flowers will continue to clog airways and grow until the infected person dies.
Asra can literally die from unrequited love.

In most cases the diagnosed is known to experience excessive coughing sessions and throwing out flower petals of their beloved's favourite kind of flower accompanied by some blood and/or mucus. Hanahaki is a disease where the affected coughs up the favorite flowers of the one they love, left untreated it can kill in a matter of weeks, you can get a surgery to remove the root, however you will forget everything about your loved one, or never feel love again. More commonly people let it kill them, but this can be avoided by confessing, however if you get rejected, the condition will progress faster and surgery will no longer be an option. The cough will start with a few petals, then progress to the entire flower head, after that a bit of blood, and finally, the entire flower with the stem and blood. If it gets to that point, you likely have days to live. The condition progresses faster or slower depending on how long the love has existed and how strong it is. Some of the warning signs for the disease are high unexplainable fevers along with harsh coughing fits and trouble breathing, these symptoms only occur for the worst cases however, so not everyone will have warning signs. "Great" Asahi sighed with his head in his hands. "Just what I needed." When Asahi gets sick and doesn't recover it's up to him and a few others to figure out what to do before it's too late, only, he has a secret he doesn't want them to know. Some say secrets can kill, but this time it's far too real. (Disclaimer!!!
