It has been 5 years since my country's government was overthrown.
We lost everything. Our country, our courage and strength, but most importantly our freedom.
I was young, but old enough to remember that horrible day. Ever since then I dreamed of one day our country being the way it was, when everyone was happy.
We lived in a world of fear, just trying to survive day to day. Our new "government" controlled every aspect of our lives. We had to look a certain way, believe in what they wanted us to believe in. If we didnt cooperate, it was death. Being controlled like this has weakened my country and me. Any hopes for this country were burned away with any happy memories left of it.
I put up with it all, until the day they took away my 8 year old cousin for execution. So I did what any stupid person would do, I went out to save her. I promised her i wouldn't let anything happen to her and I sure wasnt going to break that promise. I was gonna fight for her and for my country. With the whole army and government on the hunt for me, the odds are against me. If they find me, im dead. But I had something better than the army, I had courage and most importantly I had God.

The whole camp was filling with smoke. I coughed, praying that my lungs would keep working for just a few more minutes. "Eli, which way is west?"
