She has to outwit the society at every turn, in order to find her Mother, a still young, woman taken solely to procreate. In the new world, women are scarce.  Following genetic engineering in the Dark Past in order to create men, not women, for its world wars, evolution inevitably concluded that women give birth to men.  The society, a heavily monitored, orderly, clean living environment, where Leah has been brought up, was created in order to breed females. And it's working.  But, since meeting Blake from the new world, albeit under dreadful circumstances, Leia isn't sure whether the society is right for her anymore.
