After the unexpected death of his mother, Kai's life takes a turn for the worse. His older brothers begin fighting, desperate to pin the blame on each other, and when one of them disappears, Kai fears for the worst. Then, to add to all the trauma he's already going through, his twin brother - who's dead, but somehow lives in his mind - is causing everyone to think he's insane. When his father ships him off to a farm in Small Town, USA, he doesn't know what to think. Suddenly he's expected to say Grace at meals, make his bed, and care for more species of animals than he can count on his fingers. But the thing Kai is most unprepared for is "Sox", the impossibly innocent, and very sweet foster daughter of the farmer, who refuses to admit she wants to do more with her life than farm. The two become friends, and without realizing it begin to change each other for the better. As their friendshhip blooms, Kai and Sox learn to see life differently, having crazy adventures the whole trip.
