Alexandra Wilson made a mistake, and unfortunately in the eyes of the law her mistake is considered a felony. Felony's in Ember are punished by execution. Instead of the electric chair or lethal injection Alex will be executed by a scientifically made black hole. But the thing is Alex wakes up after being "executed" and she's somewhere new. Alex now has to figure out where she is and why it happened. Along the way she meets new people some friendly and some unwelcoming, while trying to figure out this new world. While prejudice against E.H.s reaches it's peak because of a horrific tragedy, the Soldiers of the New World waste no time to expand their reach and rally for their cause of taking over the city.
