On the outside, Leah may seem like your average teenage girl, but she harbors a major secret: she was never alive. After many, many years of moving across the world, location after location, alias after alias, Leah finds herself stationed in a magnet high school in Seattle, Washington. She is determined to keep her frightening past behind her, maintain her stunning academic record, and to never get close to anyone at all. Not ever. However, that all changes when Leah meets Jamie Riverdale and his stellar group of friends. Leah refuses to show any interest in them at first, but then she notices that some members of the group are exactly like her. As a series of threats slowly reveal her brewing secret, Leah must protect everyone she has come to know from a fight none of them had ever seen. She is unsure if she is willing to sacrifice her own life, but at the same time: it is hard to die when you never lived.

Underneath the surface, Jace struggles with anxiety, insomnia, and the grief of his mother's death. His widowed father, Jack, is out of touch and doesn't know how to connect with his son other than pushing for big college scholarships. What happens when their single parents meet and hit it off at a parent-teacher night? Their worlds are turned upside down when Willow's mom and Jace's dad become engaged. Thus throwing the two teenagers into a new life as step siblings. Will they become the perfect family their parents want them to be or will Jace introduce Willow to a whole new world of forbidden desires and choices? **There is no blood relation between the two main characters, nor were they raised together.
