Oxygen. It's one of the many things we take for granted. One day we were breathing fine. The next day it got tougher. Now, the ozone layer is as thin as a piece of homework paper and we can barely breathe. The worst part? I'm one of the millions of reasons this happened.

-REWRITTEN/EDIT THE ENTIRE STORY ON 7/24/17- Coughing, the smoke swirled in front of me as beams of black and white flashing lights raced across my vision, disappearing as quickly as they had appeared. My lungs ached as they tried to pull in clean oxygen, my eyes straining to see through the grey haze. Once the smoke dissipated some, I could see we had appeared in the middle of a road. It was cracked and full of potholes, the yellow lines coated with dirt and grime from over the years it seemed. Taking a better look around, it looked like a bomb had gone off and I was witnessing the remainders of a city.Complete

Supernovae and Life
Space and time began about 13.7 billion years ago but it consisted almost exclusively of hydrogen until some stars grew sufficiently massive to create the heavier elements in gigantic explosions called supernovae. The Sun formed about 4.6 billion years ago with an orbiting disk of debris that became the Solar System and, about 4.4 billion years ago, the Earth was cool enough for liquid water. Oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus make up 99% of the mass of the human body. These elements combine to form molecules ranging from water to the twin helices of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that specify the genetic code. Life on Earth probably began with complex, virus-like molecules that over billions of years evolved cells and the ability to split carbon dioxide and water (H2O). The poisonous waste product, oxygen, released into the atmosphere, probably caused the first mass extinctions on Earth. WHO THE HELL ARE WE? is a series of short books and videos describing the evolution of civilization. Almost everyone on the planet is five times wealthier than their ancestors only 50 years ago. This astonishing phenomenon has also improved the health, education, and longevity of almost everyone. The cause; an explosive growth in ideas and productivity. Breathing Water
My name is Oyster Estuary. I am 17 years old. I have suffered from the inability to breath oxygen properly for as long as I can remember. My classmates think its weird that I have to get help breathing from a little inhaler practically every hour (they even bully me about it). It has always been that bad, so my mom never let me do anything that would make it harder to breath, like swimming. The only time I get wet is when I'm in the shower.
