Story number 2 in that ill-fated 30 day challenge. 

The task here was to "open a book at random and pick a line. Use that line as the beginning of you piece and continue writing from where it leaves off. Pen the first thoughts that come to mind and don't revise it."

So that's what I did. The book I pulled off my bookshelf was the 25th anniversary edition of The Princess Bride by William Goldman (2007). The quote was from page 292.
