Daniel Howell was taken in by his auntie, uncle and cousin, his parents were killed by death eaters because they associated with Muggles. This year Dan is going to Hogwarts, were he sorted into the house he most definitely didn't want to be in. All year Dan struggles with his sexuality and the fact that he lives with Muggles, his cousin Hermione Granger was returning do redo her seventh year which he is ever so happy about. Hermione doesn't always see him getting beaten up however, and she wouldn't ever imagine her bestfriend being involved in beating him.

Phil is ecstatic to go to Hogwarts to get away from his abusive parents, you see Phil Is Gay, and he also got bullied in primary school and he began self harming, His parents are homophobic and are the worst parents he can imagine...He finds it difficult to hide the scars from them but he does it anyway... He does often see Dan get beaten up, but he decided to stay out of it for a while, but he began speaking to Hermione Granger and Harry Potter about the situation, Phil then becomes their messenger, telling the two Gryffindors everything he may come across.
