Nothing else known to the citizens of Panem can quite align with the horrors one can face within these arenas. Each year it changes, each year it's something new, and the Capitol can't get enough. Thousands of tributes have fallen before today, and maybe thousands yet are to follow. But who can resist the smallest chance that you, a tribute, may yet just survive? Who could pass up the chance to ascend to the roar of a nation as a golden crown is placed upon your head...
Sure you can try.
But some even say the victors never really win. No, to them the games are like a nightmare, reincarnated as an ever following beast that you cannot tame. They say that this is much worse than the games themselves... but now imagine if that beast and the games collide and as a tribute you're being hunted by so much more than fellow tributes... now imagine that you cannot run, and that you have nowhere left to hide.

As soon as they arrive in the Capitol, though, before they are even brought to their rooms, they are wheeled into a small room. They are alone. Except for a camera, and a piece of paper telling them to explain their fondest memory, and their worst. In such a world, tributes are pulled from the same pool, and so in addition to being reaped, sometimes you just know you don't have a chance; two boys from District 2 would plow through the rest, and all you can do is cry. ---------------------------------------------------------- She lived in 12 for generations of her family, but not in the filth, nor was she in a family of victors. No. She was the child of peacekeepers; she was trained to fight, in special schools for them, and even her name was only once in the reaping bowl as she grew, no matter what she did. People like her would be 12's future peacekeepers, raised and trained on site for generations of their families to be sure they know all there is to know about the district they'll keep in check. ---------------------------------------------------------- She grew up in 12, in the poorest part of 12. She'd hunt for her family with her friend and would exchange some wild game with the on-and-off boyfriend she had, son of the baker, or her best friend. Her life was hard.
