When I Look Into Your Eyes

Avery Jackson is color blind.
It's no big deal, really. Everyone else is. It's common knowledge that you don't get your colors until you make physical contact with your soulmate. Until you do, your world remains gray, completely lacking color.
Which Avery doesn't mind. He just wants to get through the rest of his senior year without any complications, soulmate be damned. He's not about to give up on his dreams, even though he is forced to concede that in a world where people insist on holding others, it's hard to stay untouched for long.
And then it happens. When he goes to Emily Beckstein's New Year's Eve party, Avery accidentally bumps into the cutest boy he's ever seen. Being slightly buzzed, he doesn't make the best decision, so he turns and taps the stranger on the shoulder. He meant to get the guy's attention and get him to apologize, but one thing leads to another, and Amazingly Cute Guy turns into Aggravatingly Cute Boy. Avery means to push the guy's chest, but Cute Guy's reflexes must be pretty good, because at the last second he grabs Avery's wrist. And Avery's world explodes into color.

Zack Benson has to find his soulmate.
He feels the sharp need clawing at his heart and insides, whispering that he can't be alone. He can't, because...
Because then everything his dad ever said about him being good for nothing will be true.
Because he longs for the day he can finally see himself in full color, and he can experience everything his older brother has been describing since he met his soulmate.
Zack knows his reasoning is flawed. He knows that maybe it isn't the best basis for a lasting relationship, but what else can he do?
He's terrified of being left alone.
So when Zack accidentally touches a fellow party-goer's hand, and he can suddenly see the
guy glaring at him *in color*, he's thrilled (even though the guy tried to shove him).
He's not alone.

Which just goes to show, you never really know what's going to happen to you, until it happens.
