He sighs and I stare ahead. It has started snowing outside. We would be heading home tomorrow. Back to reality. I sniff at the thought of being home again. I would be sitting right there, at the kitchen table, nursing a scotch in silence. Without Amory or Fay or Max or Travis there to keep me company. Alone. But I guess that all of us have felt terribly alone in each other's company as well.
I take another sip.
Amory puts down an empty glass and I pour us another. He smiles lightly and turns his face to me. "Thank you," he says, and I nod. He's not thanking me for another drink.
I take another sip and clear my throat. "Who were you?" I ask, and Amory cocks his head to the side.
"Who were you before they broke you?"
