"...one by one the lights flickered off. The air-conditioner stopped functioning and the room was flooded with the humid warmth of mid-spring. From the bedroom, I heard the TV shut off as sounds of the football match abruptly cut off. A loud rumble that sounded like huge machinery cranking echoed through the corridors.

The last bulb flickered off, and we were left enveloped in total darkness. Ruby's soft whimpers drifted into the bathroom. A last drop of water that had been hanging on the opening of the tap fell loose, hitting the sink with an unusually deafening 'plop'. A sick feeling began to rise in my stomach. Something has changed, something has happened. My life would no longer be mundane."

A normal peaceful evening escalates into a nightmare when the school dormitory is placed on lockdown and Emaline is trapped inside. I stood there leaning against the door for a second. Then screams reached my ear. Seconds later, August was standing just inches from me. He looked around and I stayed as quiet and still as I possibly could. I didn't even breathe. After what seemed like years of waiting, August turned back toward the dead girl and walked out if sight. I stayed where I was for a little bit longer until my lungs demanded I start breathing again. Directly in front of me was the library and cafeteria. To the right of the cafeteria was the auditorium and the music hall. "If I could just make it to the chorus room maybe I'll find some of my friends," I thought to myself. I was about to take my first step when I looked down at my shoes. They were brand new and when I walked, they squeaked. I took my shoes off as quietly as I could. I had my Captain America socks on and I knew I'd have to take those off as well. I just couldn't risk slipping. Once my feet were bare I took off in a quiet sprint towards the music hall. How awesome is that cover though!? Lol my dad made it.
