. . . Waves crash as sand lay motionless on the shore, except when eroded by the chilling sheet of majestic blue that would breach upon the rough, fine granules every few seconds. The waves compose a rhythm that could soothe and comfort the coarsest of souls. A girl laughing, or perhaps crying, sits with her feet barely in the water- just enough to feel it ebb-and-flow against her tiny toes. I would appear only after seeing this forbidden setting. A beach, so alien to me and yet embedded into many different variations of the same memory as if I were there. I can recall the smell of ocean spray, the taste of seawater in the air, and the many sounds produced by this area that meshes stable land with fluid ocean. Memories no one should possess . . .

The Boy in the Gray Hoodie
I was never meant to leave that room. I had spent my whole life in there, imagining what it was like on the outside. I looked forward to the day when I would finally be allowed to leave. But that day was never supposed to come. Until James decided to keep his promise. He had always been there, on the other side of the glass. Waiting. The experiment wasn't over. He was still waiting for me to change. But I didn't change. Not until that night. It was dark, and there was rain. The sound of the car engine was loud, but the crash was louder. In the crash, I became something different. I changed. But not for James. This new part of me emerged for one reason; to save her. This is a story about an under water city called Undersea. It is not a particularly magical place this city, in the way we might expect an under water city to be (with mermaids, talking fish, and so forth) but is instead an everyday sort of place that we might be used to. Except that it is under water. In this story we meet an everyday sort of girl named Sarah, watch her grow, and witness the choices she must make. For in reality this is a story about how certain thoughts and ideas will come to certain conclusions, horrendous as they might be in the end. But here we are getting quite ahead of ourselves. He was met with a sea of unfamiliar faces - teenagers, all around his age, scattered across the endless dunes. The blistering sun beat down on them, relentless in its ferocity. As the boy struggled to sit up, he noticed the mix of fear, desperation, and determination etched on the faces around him. Some were huddled in small groups, whispering among themselves, while others wandered aimlessly, searching for something - anything - that could help them survive. The boy's memories were hazy, but one thing was certain: they were trapped. There was no sign of civilization in sight, just an endless expanse of sand and rock. No buildings, no roads, no rescue in sight. Panic began to set in as the boy scrambled to his feet, joining the throngs of teenagers searching for answers. How did they get here? Why were they trapped? And, most pressing of all, how would they survive in this desolate wasteland? As the boy joined the desperate search for survival, he realized that he was not alone in his quest for answers. I wasn't special, I wasn't a marine or a scientist sent here from earth to study Pandora, I was a behaviorist-some say behaviorists are scientists too; but the brain isn't made up of mathematics and hope, it's like the roots of trees. Forever speaking but unheard. I study people's brains and their behavior. I don't look at it with hope and faith. I'm nothing special, not really. When I was accepted to help with Project Pandora, I was exhilarated. This was my big break, something to get me out there. I never expected for it to spiral into my life unprofessionally-become personal, emotional.
