Kelly is an overweight girl in her final year of high school. Her mother died four years ago, leaving her with her father and her step-mother, Candy, whose sole mission in life is to humiliate Kelly about her weight. Amanda is a quiet, malnourished girl in Kelly's graduating class. Her mother also died four year ago, and she was left with her father who sank into one perpetual drunken stupor the day he put his wife (Amanda's mother) in the ground and continues to spend all the money they have on his alcohol.
