After coming to Magnolia, she decided to change her last name from Belserion to Scarlet, and live a different life. Jellal Fernandes lived in Magnolia ever since he could remember. His parents had died when he was 11 years old. Since then he brought himself up with the help of his friends and neighbours. He was one of the top students at Fiore High School and certainly the brightest in his group of friends. He never thought he could fall in love, but that was till he met Erza Scarlet.
