Quiet and fearful Dani Shoals has spent the past seven years hidden away in her parent's attic after she accidentally caused the death of her twin sister.

When Dani's parents suddenly die in a car crash, her aunt and uncle discover her in the attic while cleaning out the house and take her in. She must now learn to navigate the new world in which she finds herself after spending her childhood in isolation.

Dani befriends Jonah, and the two form a curious and inseparable bond as he shows her how to live and she teaches him to see the beauty in everything.
