Kulthum is going through something. It could be a hormonal shift, another round of her "rebellious teen phase" even though she's now twenty-two, or an identity crisis. Whatever it is, Kulthum has changed. She can feel it, and everyone can see it, but no one can cite a reason for it-including her. When Kulthum comes home from her third unattained university degree, lugging more than suitcases, her parents have had enough. They decide to do what every African parent living in the United Kingdom has once threatened to do. They ship her back home to Nigeria. With a one-way first-class ticket, Kulthum finds herself stranded in the busy city of Lagos, stuck with a family she knows nothing about and surrounded by her culture, which feels completely foreign to her.
