My cousin always referred to us as the bad jokes, as in...a blonde, a brunette and a redhead walk into a bar. I'm the redhead, and this is my story. When I was 18, a psychic told me to wait for the man with the scar. For five years I waited and then suddenly, there he was in front of me one night. No mistake -- this was the man. We got off to a bad start, and I just kept making things worse chasing after him. Until he let me know in no uncertain terms that he wasn't interested in me. So I gave him what he wanted and ignored him. Then he decided he wanted me. And him getting me back was the least of our problems.

I had warned him. My husband was working with his friend's sister to renovate her grandparents' home and get it ready to sell. She was taking more and more of his time, leaving me alone more and more. I had warned him. So on the day I realized my husband was having an emotional affair with this woman was the day I was done with him. I had warned him. And he didn't listen. But he's listening now. Now, when it's too late. He's promising to make it right, to win me back, to not stop until I've forgiven him and we're back together. I've assured him that's not happening. I had warned him. Now he was warning me: I'm going to make this right and I won't stop until you're mine again.

Be careful, Specs," he squinted down at me, "or you might actually sound as if you like me." I rolled my eyes. "Don't flatter yourself. I was concerned. Don't confuse that with affection. It's two very, very different things." *** When you think that all is not lost in the world. That not all men are pricks and that not all sushi is bad. When you think that there is a light, no matter how dim, at the end of the tunnel. When you think that life isn't the ruthless bitch you've always thought it was... It turns around and bites you in the ass. When you think that the past will always and forever remain where it should be... It comes at you from every direction. My best friend Greyson McNamara and I have been partners in crime for a while now. Pranks, sneaking out to go to parties, joy riding in our parents' cars, all that crazy teen stuff, we made a pact to do together. And surprise surprise, dating each other was never on that list. I mean it's not like Grey is a bad looking guy or anything. Wink wink. Now back to that no dating thing. For years, we heard about how we would be a cute couple and how we are perfect for each other. That includes us thinking that it can't hurt to try to date each other for the summer before college. We made a promise to each other that we'll stay friends no matter what. Have you ever thought about what you would wish for if given three wishes? Let's be honest-we all have. We've debated it with friends, partners, even our parents. But in the end, we always laugh it off, knowing it's nothing more than a fairy tale. I was different.
