Adderflight needs to be the best.
He's got three sisters, all of them excellent at being warriors. He's got a disapproving mother, and no father to be raised by. And he could tell his mother favored the girls of his litter over him.

His mother is one of the strictest cats Adderflight knows. And if there's one thing she hates most, it's kittypets. She always told Adderflight and his littermates to stay away from them.

But even if he knows it will mean his mother disfavoring him more,

Adderflight doesn't listen.
