Meet our unnamed, 12 year-old main character (AKA, the MC). She’s got a mom who’s always gone, a dad who’s always weird, and an older sister, (Ava) whose intelligent rants are making less sense every day.
As the in-fighting at home reaches a boiling point, perfect Ava begins to lose hold on reality, and does something that gets her landed at a nearby hospital. The MC has a feeling (or maybe it’s just wishful thinking) that her sister might be faking. After all all, Ava’s always loved to tell lies. But can the MC get Ava to admit what’s really going on, or is her sister’s transformation simply a genetic reminder of the insanity in store for her, as well?
In this southern Gothic inspired tale, we look at the ways in which one family’s history of mental illness helps and hinders as it navigates a breakdown
