Phil Lester is your average high school student. He's sweet, he's shy, and, oh yeah, he has schizophrenia. It's not that bad, Phil just occasionally hears, sees, and feels things that aren't really there. The condition isn't as bad as it makes out to be, but it naturally repels people leaving Phil with no friends and family that doesn't love him. That is, until a boy named Dan Howell moves in across the street. Then everything changed.
