Extract from Chapter 2

"Fuck" Hamilton breathed out, cursing the gods that had to put Laurens next to him. He accidentally brushed his thigh against Laurens' and held his breath, afraid he was going to say something.

He didnt. And Alex could breathe again. He breathed in Laurens' soft scent of cinnamon and hibiscus. But the hibiscus was being slightly covered by the somber smell of smoke. Hamilton held his breath tightly again, only to release it a few seconds later, wanting to smell Laurens again. He felt John's numinous gaze fall upon him, and he looked back at him. And Alex's eyes lingered on John's for a little. John's lips were parted slightly, as if he were daydreaming and his hair fell into his face. His hair looked very insipid. Very dull and dreary. But whenever the sun layed its rays upon it, it turned to all shades of copper and gold. His lips were matte but shiny. Smooth but rough. They were all sorts of pinks and purples but seemed so grey. They were cracked but uncreased. There were too many freckles but not enough. And his stare was cold but seemed so warm.

Alex has gotten so good at noticing it all. It all about John.

Alex looked away, turning his head to the front, wondering what the fuck just happened.
