Book Two in the False King Trilogy

My name is Ursula Jenith, and I am a magi. I am a professor at the University of Kal'en, and I never expected my life to change so dramatically. Things are never normal, not with the Hidden, and definitely not with the Magi. But I try to do the best I can.

Yet when a man known as Ditto Night, the Last Necromancer enters my life, things change in the most terrible of ways. He preaches war, claims that an entity more powerful than anything is on the rise. And believes my leaders are in on it.
Now I am trapped, between loyalty to my people, or to a man most likely gone insane.

What am I to do?

XXXX

For those of you who don't know, I am Ditto Night. A necromancer, who has put himself in the way of a being known as the Sleeping Witch. She is on the rise, and will bring the end of all things. Honestly, I should just let her destroy the Layers, but then I'd feel bad.

So now I travel to the Light Layer, in hopes to stop a war that one man cannot do alone. Am I desperate? Not yet. Am I scared? Never. But my greatest challenge is proving to great. Is what I would say if I wasn't Ditto Night. Who is willing to try and stop me? Who can stand in my path?

War is coming. Ancient powers are starting to awaken.

Death is for all, and I think it's time to remind the world what I am.

Due to the century-long war between the two kingdoms, a fragile peace has been upheld for the past ten years through a grim ritual: each year, five elves from the kingdom of Umori and five from Pfisma are sent to a desolate island known as the "Land of the Dead." Once a wasteland of stone and sand, the island is now overrun by deadly beasts and monstrous exiles-criminals who were banished from both realms. Those who survived learned things far darker than crime itself. On that cursed island, the only law is: kill or be killed. This year, Zephyr, desperate to escape his kingdom, secretly boarded the ship bound for the Land of the Dead, joining four other common elves chosen for the ritual. It was a sacrifice to the God of Death, a tribute that had been paid annually for a decade. Hydra, his dragon, followed him from the skies above, through the treacherous sea passage known as the Gates of Hell. Zephyr whispered to himself over and over: Just survive. Make it through. Cross to Umori. Find a better life. Once his father-the king-realized where he had gone, he would believe his only heir was dead. He would lose both his son and the future of his kingdom. ⸻ Herena had always opposed the sacrificial rite. She believed no offering should be required, but she could not ignore the truth: those five lives given each year saved millions more. Millions who would have otherwise perished in war. Still, this year was different. This year, Herena was taken. Abducted from her own palace, her chambers, her very bed-forced onto the ship sailing straight toward the Land of the Dead. Yet she was not afraid. Not because she was brave-but because, deep down, she had always wanted to end the tribute. And maybe... just maybe... this was the only way to do it.

[BUNDLE] BOOK 1: There's a reason buried things should always stay buried. For better or for worse. To have and to hold a demon for eternity. She says demons haunt the night, inflecting everything in their path. But where I come from demons don't just lurk around the shadows. They breed in your head. Feasting on your soul until you cease to exist. And, mine just woke up infested in wicked lies. Till death do us apart, little soul. BOOK 2: Girls like them are expected to dance to the tune of evil. To smile with the taste of souls in their veins and vengeance in their hearts. To feed the ghosts and the monsters within them. Discarded by the world and hidden in a maze of twisted creatures, I'm barely holding into my sanity, trapped between the past and the present. Between good and evil. Until one day I no longer recognize myself or them. He says he can see beyond the evil that I am. But it's not him that my madness prevails for or HIM. Because I'm starting to hear their tune, dancing to destruction and chaos. BOOK 3: There's a reason buried things should always stay buried. Like my mistakes. Your past. Now the grave is open and corpses are crawling out. Corpses inflicted with lies and betrayals. Corpses that you pull the strings of, corpses that even Hell is afraid to take. You see, little soul, you think that makes you the monster in our story. But you forgot me. You forgot my promise. Our story might have ended with till death do us apart. But even death has a shadow to lose.
