In the world there is both darkness and light and between them is an unspoken balance. However, when the angel Castiel is killed by Evelyn, that balance is broken. Lucifer is temporarily put in charge and as the god of this new dark world, he lets his "little doggies" free.
Meanwhile on earth. Aaron is in school. He has no family and has been sent through foster homes and orphanages after watching his family be murdered at the age of 7. But his life is slowly becoming better. However, when the balance is broken and the Darkness is released, his new life shatters and his world has became a new one.
