A hidden war between witches and pirates has been storming for decades, a gem wielding unmeasurable power the cause of it all. According to the tales, the gem is kept guarded by the most malicious beast of the sea, killing any who sail too close. Only one pirate has ever seen the beast and survived.

Evangeline Thomas is a witch living in a mundane town where it isn't easy hiding her unusual nature. Completely unaware of the war in which she is involved, she is determined to repress her magic that may get her killed if any should discover it.

Her life spirals from unfavourable to absolute chaos after her secret is discovered and she gets tangled with the business of notorious pirates seeking immortality. With Captain Percival Knox's hope tied to the old folktale of the infamous pirate and the powerful missing gem, he temporarily teams with the enemy and makes a dangerous deal with Evangeline which will send them both off the edge of the map. 

As Evangeline and Captain Knox's lives begin to overlap, a new world is exposed to Evangeline, a world hidden in the corners and cracks of humanity. Adventure and the promise of her freedom drive Evangeline away from the unforgiving town she grew up in to a life she never knew existed.

*UPDATE: Guys, thank you soooo much for reading, voting, and commenting! It really means a lot! Also, I started writing this story May 11th, 2022. I had NO idea there was a scary movie called Pearl. I just thought it was a pretty name. In a world where elves and humans coexist, a dying half-elf French witch travels to Japan in order to transfer her power to an old friend and lover, the wizard Hajime. The witch's granddaughter, Pearl, arrives from Canada, as she was invited to receive this gift in a special ritual. Meanwhile, Prince Hinata of Japan is preparing to marry Princess Achara of Thailand, but he doesn't like this arrangement. Pearl's obsession with royalty lands her in hot water with her grandmother, and following an argument, she is taken to the Palace by a royal servant. Quickly realizing what happened, the old witch and wizard must work together to save Pearl from the Prince. But things become complicated after Pearl falls in love with him while remaining mesmerized by a friendly, half-elf kitchen servant. I'm interested in Japanese culture and watch NHK News. (I've always been into anime, kabuki, and sumo as well.) This work is not meant to be offensive in any way. All discriminatory language used by characters is used to show who they are, not my values. I guess I predicted Kamala and Chappell with Sadako...being mocked for her laugh, a queer woman into drag, etc. Fun fact: Pearl's birthday is September 25th, making her a Libra. Amma's song is based on "Teach Me, Tiger" by April Stevens. Sexual restraint (or purity culture) is what makes the Prince crazy in his treatment of women; the elves express sexuality in a healthy way compared to humans, thus showing the contrast between them. The Prince's isolation definitely factors into this, too- Pearl is the first "different" girl he's seen, so when he sees her, he sees her more as a comforting concept than a person.

It smelt slightly of mint, and an undercurrent that was all Cole-pure masculine goodness.I breathed in deeply, my eyes briefly fluttering closed. God, since when did he smell so good?" Raven has lost everyone. Her mother and twin sister died, her father left, leaving her in alone in the world with powers that she barely understands. All that Raven has left is Cole, her best friend. When a dangerous enemy resurfaces intent on killing Raven, Cole swears he will do all he can to protect her. As the two get pushed closer together, will their combined powers be enough to save them? Will Raven be able to stop her heart from shattering to a thousand pieces? *** Please keep in mind that this is a first draft, and is, for the most part, unedited. I know it's not at its best, but I'm working on it... "Wow, I am so hooked!" "You captivated me from the start..." "The storyline seems very original..."
