In the distance I could hear the sound of, something. I don't know what it was, maybe an owl, and the scream of some small animal? Either way it was a terrifying noise. At this point I should have just turned around like any normal person, I really didn't want to know what that noise could have been if it wasn't an owl. If I had the option of turning around and walking away from the forest I was about to enter, I would.
I entered the now silent forest, well more like ran in like my life depended on it, because it did. Please let the scream have just been an owl, Please! Please! Please! I plead in my head. Weird right? I'm so afraid of what's chasing me I'm distracting myself about a fucking owl. An owl won't try and kill me, that thing behind me, might.
Getting tired from however far my adrenaline filled body ran I realize I have to stop or I'm going to pass out. Hiding in a nearby bush, my hair getting tangled in the process, I hide as far away from the trail while still in the bush as I can. Over the sound of my pounding heart I think I hear footsteps, which stop in front of the bush I'm hiding behind / in.
"Mia," he whispered. "Please, I j-just, need to t-t-talk to you." I know he knows where I am, and if I'm going to die I guess I'll not die a cowered.
Slowly I stand up and step backwards out of the bush I'm in. Ok so if I need to run at least there's a bush in between me and him, I really don't plan on dying today. I dust off the dirt on my legs and hands before looking into his eyes. I see a look of relief wash over his face but quickly it goes back to its normal, unreadable, expression. However, I'm looking into his eyes, they hold a look of sadness and... fear?
Why fear?
Shouldn't I be the one afraid?
