Elaine has lived her whole life protected from the terrible government in a colony created by her grandfather in India.  She wants adventure and leaves, coming upon the terrible truths of the outside world and the immortals made so by the Serum.  She finds unexpected love as she fights to take down the monarchy in a futuristic society and the story is a flashback of Elaine's memory as she tells her daughter Elisa about her father and her life story.
