I don't have a Pendant. My parents and my sister do; almost everyone older than 14 does. Some Pendants are stolen, some have it taken away, and others are robbed of the chance to ever get one. The first are poorly reimbursed, the second are imprisoned, and the latter live their lives alone in shame. I fear those people. Rather, I fear becoming them. We all do. That's what today is all about. Today, I find out if I have magic. I suppose my life depends on it, in a way.
