Steven Easton(27) and his niece, Ava(9), just moved up to suburban Iowa from the roughest small town in Alabama. Steven grew up with next to nothing. His mom cared more about alcohol than her kids, and it eventually took her life due to liver cancer. Stacey, Steven's sister robbed a bank about five years ago, causing Steven to take on the responsibility of legally raising Ava. He had taken her in when she was a baby though because he didn't want another child to grow up like he did. Steven reunited with his father last month, and he's trying to process that. The reason why they chose Iowa is because Steven's aunt, Jen, offered him a job at the best middle school in Iowa. He was a well-known teacher in Alabama because he was one of the few teachers who genuinely cared about his students. That was why his aunt had confidence in hiring him. But will he be able to get along with other adults here in Iowa? He was so used to being liked and listened to in Alabama. Is anyone going to notice him here? Everyday a new entry will be produced, walking us through his interesting journey.

Sydney didn't have much, but that was fine with her. She didn't need much. Growing up on the Washington coast in a lonely beach town, working quietly behind the scenes was what she was good at. Living on the beach was much less glamorous than most people imagine. Her home was a beat up old Winnebago that she had shared with her father until he passed. Her father had been a detached parent. He loved his daughter of course, but he was by no means an affectionate man. She had grown up fending for herself, working backstage at a bar that hosted live bands using a fake ID. After the death of her father she saw an ad for a guitar technician for a local Seattle band. A love of rock and roll had been the one thing that her and her dad had in common. Selling everything that she didn't need she packed up her pickup truck and travelled north to the city, leaving the sleepy town in her rear view mirror. She didn't expect to embark on what would become the adventure of a lifetime. For someone who had hardly left the town she grew up in, the opportunity to get paid to travel the country and listen to great music was a dream come true. The band became her family, and life on the road was a perfect fit for her. Chris Cornell instantly became Sydney's best friend in the whole world. They were in love, that was plain as day to anyone who paid attention. Yet, sometimes love isn't as simple as it should be. Sometimes, love hurts. Warning: This book covers potentially triggering subjects such as depression, suicidal ideation, domestic abuse, sexual assault, poverty and drug use.
