14- year-old Max Himmerwik isn't too pumped about moving to California. Though when he arrives, strange things start to happen that might just change the course of the rest of his life forever. It all started with a book that was given by his grandma as a welcoming gift. It had swirly designs at its corners and a garden with a castle in the background etched on the front. On the side were golden words in Greek. After finding a ring that was left inside it, he started having hallucinations and hearing whispers. Seeing visions of a place he did not know and a person he's never met. Somehow he and his newly made friends find their way to a different world they never new even existed. As they try to make sense of it all and find a way home, they run into an even bigger problem that won't just put their lives in danger, but also the existence of both worlds on the verge of destruction.

Whether they can save the world depends on whether they can survive themselves. Mature rating for blood, gore and depictions of violence. TW: mentions of drunkards and beer, mention of physical abuses, a description of trypophobia, claustrophobia, and other phobias, and descriptions of nasty cryptids. There is no depictions or allusions of sex, no f-bombs, or drug abuse. This story was started when I was in seventh grade. I finished the original when I was a senior in high school. Displeased with the finished product, I began to rewrite it here, starting June 2015, then again in 2020. I am quite satisfied with the result, and am sure this will be the final edition. This isn't the first book of the series, but there's no spoilers for 'The World is Larger than it Seems', so you can start on this one. The story is far from finished, however, and I hope to eventually finish the series.

For those who love to adventure... This STUNNING debut novel will captivate your imagination and immerse you in its magical, fantasy world. My name is Rose and I have a question for you. Have you ever been transformed into a horse or a unicorn? How about a dragon or an eagle or even a dolphin for that matter? Have you ever been transported into a strange new world? Well let me tell you, it's AMAZING!! It all started when I began dreaming about a house when I was eight years old. I told my mum and dad about it and they showed me an old photograph of the house for real that they had kept hidden away from me since I was a baby. That was when they told me I was adopted. I wasn't really shocked or upset. It was like somehow I had always known. Fast forward five years and we stayed in that very same house. That was where we found the cave in the woods and more importantly, the crystals buried inside it that we took back to the house. Now that would have been the end of it under normal circumstances; if this was just a normal wood that we had walked through; and if we had just found a normal cave, with normal crystals. But the truth was it was not a normal wood, it was not a normal cave and the crystals we had found most certainly were not just any old crystals. In fact, that night, something amazing started to happen. A soft glow started to appear from one of the crystals in a corner of the garden and covered us, before gradually transforming each of us into magical animals. Then we started floating one by one up into the sky, inside the beam of light. This is the story of what happened next and how I discovered The Magical Secret of the Crystal Kingdom.
