Andrea Contini è un uomo comune, sposato, un bambino ancora piccolo, le proprie abitudini e qualche interesse coltivato con un residuo di passione. Ma due eventi accadono a sconvolgere la sua esistenza: la morte dei propri genitori e la visione di un breve documentario il cui protagonista è un elefantino. Due eventi sufficienti a mandare in crisi ogni sua certezza e a fargli infine trovare il coraggio per prendere una decisione: quella di provare ad ultimare un romanzo iniziato anni prima e mai terminato. Per cercare in esso il filo perduto della propria esistenza e per lasciare qualcosa in dono a suo figlio.
  Scrivendo si accorgerà di quante storie egli era custode senza nemmeno saperlo e, seguendole, si troverà ad attendere su di un molo proteso sul mare l'arrivo di un bianco veliero in compagnia di un matto, di un angelo e di un cagnolino, di una piccola violinista e di un'anziana signora, di un vecchio marinaio e di una madre disperata. Ed altri ancora saranno i personaggi che incontrerà in questo suo viaggio, mentre in un lontano Paese africano un ragazzo tenterà di trovare la strada per farsi perdonare dal proprio Dio.
  Noi siamo storie. La nostra vita, le nostre domande, i nostri sogni. Storie in attesa di una risposta, di un incontro, di una possibilità per perdonare o per essere perdonati. Qui, o altrove. Questo comprende Andrea Contini scrivendo il suo romanzo, e grazie alle storie che a poco a poco vanno prendendo forma sotto le sue mani riuscirà infine a comprendere anche il motivo per il quale, al funerale di suo padre, non era riuscito a piangere. 
  Perché trovando il coraggio di fermarsi senza continuare a scappare, senza più nascondersi, per guardare finalmente negli occhi la vita e la morte, così come aveva fatto un giorno un piccolo elefante in un lontano Paese africano, si può arrivare a trovare qualcosa che non sapevamo di possedere.

He was a muslim when he was younger, but when something bad happened, he blamed Allah for it. Deep inside he knows that it is wrong, but shoves that thought away. He began doing the things Allah prohibited. There was no one to hold onto or to pull him out. He kept falling and falling. And when he has to deal with that girl his parents wants him to marry, he is losing himself more and more. Read the description in the book for the fully version!
