The intensity of the flames was overbearing, I could feel sweat run down into my eyes, as I tried to stifle it. "Feed us." The flames seemed to plead. Every inch of my body was set ablaze, sparking and simmering, yet never burning my porcelain skin. My muscles grew taut with strain, my eyes widening as the inferno raged, without any control. It begged and pleaded to burn the town and its people to ashes. I could feel my will breaking, shattering under the passionate bonfire. Before I could let the flames eat though, a cold breath of icy wind broke its way through the furiously brewing fire. Followed by, a pair of muscular arms, that seemed to cool, the beast within my fiery heart. "Shh...it's alright... they're gone, I'm okay." Ian's voice comforted, his skin felt ice cold and yet... electrifying. I sagged back weakly into his strong arms, my fire dying, leaving ash to float softly, to the burnt concrete. Ian held my small form, tightly to his chest, the freezing cold flesh of his arms, against my flushed skin, brought me back to myself. The last thing, I saw before blacking out was his arctic blue eyes, staring deeply into mine with an unconcealed awe.

“Run Maeve! Run!!” I could hear Phoenix’s voice yell to me in pain as I dashed through the woods while branches smacked me. I had to run faster, I had to escape, whatever that creature was it wanted me. I felt my feet slow down and my breathing sped up and I felt a burning sensation in my chest. I couldn’t stop; I couldn’t slow down….RUN! I forced my feet to move faster as I heard wings flapping just a few feet behind me. I didn’t dare look back though; looking back might be my death at this point. ‘Stop running’… I heard a voice in my head say I tried to ignore it, it wasn’t me who was saying it, it was something else. ‘You have no chance….STOP!’ It screamed inside my head and I could already see myself slowing down and obeying to it. I knew I was going to cave in. My feat slowed down into a small jog until I finally stopped and started to catch my breath knowing I had done the wrong thing but I couldn’t fight it, whatever it was I felt it controlling me like nothing before. ‘Good girl’ I heard it say and almost on cue I felt big strong arms curl around my waist and I felt myself being lifted up into the air with extreme force and I let out a small scream. “Maeve, no!” I heard Phoenix’s voice yell to me from a great distance as I was being lifted into the air by something. As much as I hated it I had to look, I had to see what’s going on. I looked over not at the man’s face but what really caught my eye was the giant wings on either side of me which was causing me to fly. “Phoenix!” I yelled automatically. I heard the man with his arms around me chuckle as we descended farther into the sky, away from my only hope, my mate, Phoenix.
