Will I Die Tonight?

It's been twelve years since the world went up in flames.

Everything was fine, until one day an explosion at a lab scattered a chemical to the ends of the Earth, infecting almost everyone with superhuman abilities. Everyone was torn apart with a need for wealth and power, overthrowing governments and fighting amongst themselves trying to find a new, more powerful leader.

That's when he appeared. The new king of the world.

No one knew where he came from, or just how powerful he was, but soon the entire world bowed down to him. Those who opposed him were eliminated.

Social classes started to form according to powers. There were five distinct districts of the world and people were ripped from their homes and forced to live in a new environment with people whose powers resembled their own. Families were torn apart, children were left without parents, adoption agencies and foster homes had to be reestablished and, amongst the pitiful people who found themselves unlucky enough to have not gained any powers, there was an Irish man who broke his back to provide for his newfound family.

Every year, 20 people were selected to fight for the king's amusement, put in a new environment and broadcast on live television, where they fought to the death to survive. This was the king's way of reminding us how low we are in his eyes. The one that survives gets to live in the castle as a servant to the king as a reward. If you were picked, you never saw home again.
