Nayla Greene, a though troubled 17 year old, is used to acting tough and despises showing vulnerability. For as long as she can remember, she was never the type to show when she was upset. However, that all changes when she witnesses a murder of a loved one.

     Nayla's ability to mask her emotions is put to the ultimate test when she witnesses a longtime family friend, Mick, suddenly collapse in the pool of his own blood. As Nayla tries to cope with Mick's death, she finds herself struggling in remaining her usual self. Suddenly, her life takes a strange turn when Nayla opens her front door to be faced with Mick's cousin- who she hasn't heard from in five years, Emmanuel, asking for her help in finding Mick's murderer. Emmanuel, a young and aggressive detective who doesn't play by the book (and doesn't plan to anytime soon), has returned to his home city after being gone for reasons unbeknownst to many, and is now determined in solving his cousin's murder. Having no faith in the local city police department, Emmanuel figures his only hope in finding the killer is Nayla.
 
    Helping Emmanuel in his quest, Nayla is now forced to reflect on her past and question everything around her. Will the truth finally break her?
