The Culling Test removes useless people from society; will Arden make the cut?
In a world where China has overpowered the United States military and has begun to colonize, overpopulation is a serious concern. The solution to this is the Culling Tests, which are carefully calculated to determine an individual's usefulness from an early age to see whether they are worth the resources and space it will require to raise them into adulthood. The citizens do not know the full extent of these tests, only that some days, some children never come home from school. And how shameful for that child's family.
Arden has gone through three rounds of this rigorous testing, earning soaring marks each time and making his parents proud. When he is granted an internship at the University of Culling Sciences and is mentored by his childhood idol, Arden discovers the secrets the Culling Tests hold, and questions everything he thought he knew.
