Delhi-based two-wheeler electric bike-taxi service company Pillion Rides has launched the city's first ever eco-friendly two-wheeler taxi service to address the gap of last mile connectivity for local commuters. A fleet of 20 battery operated bikes have been deployed for the first phase, which will be available from Connaught Place to give rides within a radius of five km with a minimal charge of Rs. five per km. Started by four professionals, Nikhil Malik, Karan Chadha, Pawneesh Rampal and Romesh Kumar, Pillion Rides has been initiated amidst Delhi's ongoing war against air pollution. The ambitious team decided to roll out a greener way of tackling the problem through battery operated bikes equipped with in-built GPS systems, verified and well-mannered drivers as and when required. "Pillion Rides will help single office goers, students and general commuters experience the advantages of switching over to zero polluting electric mobility and reach last mile destinations from a public point such as metro stations or a busy bus terminal. To ensure safety measures, we have in place a comprehensive insurance policy worth up to Rs. one lakh for the drivers as well as the passenger for the duration of the bike ride," added Malik. Meanwhile, all the drivers at Pillion Rides go through stringent background verification and training on aspects of safety and efficiency. Taking care of hygiene concerns, commuters will be provided with disposable hair nets to use underneath the helmets provided by them. "Being a highly popular mode of transport in India, two wheelers are contributing the maximum to air pollution in Delhi and our battery operated bikes will be a visible alternative to immediately cut the emission as one electric bike is equivalent to reducing one ton of carbon dioxide emission in three years," added Nikhil. All Rights Reserved
